The Bernese Alps
I truly love the Alps!
I think it all started when I was in high school, back then I often went to the mountains to clear my head. What had a purely practical use quickly developed into an artistic hobby. One peak after another was photographed, higher and higher demands followed until I finally completely forgot to enjoy nature. Today it looks different again, only equipped with an analogue camera, I’m still often found in the mountains not looking for perfection but for beautiful moments.
I’m a little worried when I see how many people storm the mountains looking for the next “Insta-shot”, often carelessly striking a pose in front of nature and completely forgetting what the mountains really have to offer. But part of its beauty is disappearing every day in the form of the retreating glaciers. I remember many glaciers that I visited when I was in high school and can see drastic changes just from my memory. I would like to try to capture the largest Bernese glaciers with my analog camera in order to give posterity an idea of how our Alpine region has changed during my lifetime.
MEET ALL OF THEM
The Glacier-Project
Hubelgletscher
46°35′36.663″N 8°12′00.637″E
One of the harder hikes you can do in the Swiss Alps. When you decide to visit this astonishing landscape, be aware of livestock guard dogs!
Wächselgletscher
46°36′35.496″N 8°05′15.541″E
Hiking up the steep stone walls right behind Grindelwald is truly astonishing. On this hike you will face different suffering glaciers which often resemble a pile of rocks more than a glacier.
Glacier de la Plaine Morte
46°23′02.573″N 7°30′58.226″E
For me one of the most famos mountains of canton of Berne limits the glacier on east, the Wildstrubel.
Best Hikes in Bernese Alps
Top 3 Hikes for everyone!
Lämmerenalp
46°24′01.207″N 7°34′30.676″E
Hiking from canton Bern to canton Wallis in one day? For sure that’s possible, but why not an overnight stay in the amazing alpine plateau “Lämmerenalp”!
Grimsel area
46°34′49.791″N 8°20′02.550″E
For sure it is a famous and touristic area, but why I recommend it? Simply because it’s literally for everyone! You will get the spirit of another totally different alpine world!
Really doesn’t matter!
Whole Canton Berne
It took me too long to understand that not perfect weather, not the highest peaks or the clearest mountain lake are the most worth to hike. It’s simply what you feel comfortable with and what you will make out of your day. There is pretty no bad hike in Switzerland, enjoy!
